GOLF & CRUISE SHIPS IN MARBELLA

The arrival of cruise ships in Marbella takes a step closer to reality this November when works start on the extension of the Virgen del Carmen Marina. Completion on the berth for shuttle boats should be completed by the end of the year and allow passengers from ships over 30 metres long to land in the centre of Marbella.

Arrival of cruise ships in Marbella

Despite having three marinas including Puerto Banús, Marbella hasn’t been able to cater for large cruise ships because of lack of space and depth of berth. Plans for a major extension of the Puerto Deportivo La Bajadilla in the east of the town centre have, for the moment, been shelved.
However, as from early next year, Marbella will be able to receive passengers from large cruise ships thanks to the extension of the mooring platform at the Virgen del Carmen Marina. The work involves making the waiting quay longer and wider so that shuttle boats from cruise ships can land passengers directly at the Marina. The quay already serves the Fly Blue ferry route between Marbella and Puerto Banus.

Direct to Marbella centre

As one of the key tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, Marbella makes a popular cruise destination. Coaches from cruise ships docked at Malaga Port regularly travel to Marbella bringing foreign visitors to the resort. Once the new waiting quay is ready, cruise passengers will be able to visit the centre of the town directly and on foot.
The new quay opens up a world of possibilities for tourism in Marbella. Cruise passengers will have access to the delights of the Old Town, the seafront promenade, the exciting gastronomy and of course, the many golf courses in Marbella. Visitors will be able to take advantage of the excellent facilities available and get in a round of golf during their day visit, all thanks to the arrival of cruise ships in Marbella
Courses within easy reach include Rio Real Golf & Hotel, minutes from Marbella centre and the new cruise ship shuttle quay. Not only is the course one of the best in Spain, it also ranks among the most emblematic golf courses on the Costa del Sol. In addition, it’s the only one to offer dynamic prices to ensure players always get the best deal. See them for yourself here.

Cruise ships on the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol already ranks among the most popular destinations in Spain for cruise ships. Malaga receives around 300 large ships every year, bringing over half a million visitors to the city. Puerto Banús is also a top destination for mega yachts and over the last year, several of the world’s most famous have moored at the luxury port. They include The World, the only cruise ship with a private residential community.
