Is winter the best time to play golf on the Costa del Sol?

With over 320 days of (guaranteed) sunshine a year you can play golf on the Costa del Sol at any time of year. But if you’re looking for attractions without the crowds, peace and quiet on the beach as well as warmth on the green, winter may be the best time to play golf on the Costa del Sol. Lets start with the weather.

During the winter months you can expect blue skies and daytime temperatures of around 20 degrees, ideal playing conditions. The temperature drops after sundown but even then the most you’ll need is a jacket. And winter on the Costa del Sol is the best time of year for sunrises and sunsets, providing the perfect backdrop to your Early Bird or Twilight round on Rio Real Golf. Winter on the Costa del Sol is low season for tourism so this is the best time of year for deals on hotels and flights. If you plan ahead you can book a short break on the Costa del Sol during winter for a fraction of what it would cost you in the summer. And winter is also the best time to play golf on the Costa del Sol at lower green fees – January and February are low season months at most golf courses. As well as getting more for your money in winter you can also enjoy Costa del Sol attractions without the crowds.

No need to worry about finding your favourite restaurant fully booked or discovering long queues for that museum or monument. This is the quietest time of year so there’s room for everyone! That goes for the beaches in Marbella too, unusually quiet at this time of year. Make the most of a long stroll on the sands, just a few minutes’ walk from Rio Real, and have the beach almost to yourself. Many beach bars and restaurants open year-round so enjoy a good dose of winter sunshine with a seafood lunch al fresco. But don’t worry about it being too quiet.

The Costa del Sol offers plenty of attractions and events whatever the time of year. One of the biggest festivities during winter is Carnival, celebrated in Marbella for a whole week in February. Musical recitals and concerts also take place at various venues around the resort. Make winter your best time to play golf on the Costa del Sol – book your round (or two) at Rio Real Golf.  And while you’re online, why not book a stay at Rio Real Hotel too?
