How to get the best green fees on the Costa del Sol

We all love a bargain and even more so when it’s for one of our passions. So it’s great news to discover that green fees on the Costa del Sol don’t have to be expensive. And even better news to find out that some of the best courses in the area have plenty to offer when it comes to discounts. Read on to find out how you can enjoy more golf for your money at golf courses on the Costa del Sol.

Make golf your year-round passion

One of the best ways to get value green fees on the Costa del Sol is to become an annual member of your favourite golf course. This is a great option if you live on the Costa del Sol or tend to visit frequently. Typical fees start at around €3,000 for a whole year’s play time and some Costa del Sol golf courses also offer discounted membership for couples.

For example, as well as unlimited play throughout the year, the Rio Real Membership Card also comes with discounted fees for golf buggies, your guest players, lockers… And you get generous reductions on everything else too including the Hotel, Golf Academy and Pro Shop.

Golf for everyone all year

For golfers who don’t live on the Costa del Sol annual membership may not be the best option simply because you’re not here often enough to make the most of it. Another drawback to a membership is that it’s personalised and only usable by the holder.

Some golf courses offer play packages so that you and other people can take advantage of discounted green fees on the Costa del Sol. This is the case with Rio Real Golf Packs.

The Pack of 40 Green Fees offers 40 rounds of golf for just €3,000 while the Pack of 60 costs €4,200. Like the Rio Real Membership Card, the Packs also come with discounts on buggies, club hire and lockers plus money off at the other facilities at Rio Real Golf & Hotel. Perfect if you’re on a golf holiday in Marbella or fancy a round with your staff, family or friends.

All-round discounts

Another way of getting a discount on green fees is to book online – many golf courses on the Costa del Sol offer reduced fees on their website. Or find out if your favourite course has a fidelity or bonus card. By paying a small one-off fee you can take advantage of discounts both on the course and at facilities.

The Rio Real Amigo Card gives you 15% off Rio Real Golf course fees, 10% off hotel bookings and 10% discount in the Golf Academy and Pro Shop. All for just €30.

Lots of you

If there are several of you planning to play golf on the Costa del Sol it’s worth looking into group discounts. Usually, the more there are of you, the less you all pay in green fees. For example, when you book a round for eight players at Rio Real golf course, you only pay green fees for seven. Look for the ‘1 free in 8’ option when you book.

Tee-off first or last

They say the early bird catches the worm and this is certainly true at most golf courses on the Costa del Sol if you don’t mind being the first to tee-off. Not only do you have the course to yourself and see the sun rise, you also get some of the best green fees on the Costa del Sol.

If, on the other hand, mornings aren’t your thing or you prefer golf in the late afternoon, then check to see if the golf course of your choice offers discounts for later play. Tee off after a late lunch and that discount is yours.

The Early Bird (8-9.50am) and Twilight (2.30-5pm) tee times at Rio Real Golf offer reduced prices on regular green fees.

Occasional bargains

And finally, keep a close eye out for occasional promos. The world of golf on the Costa del Sol is competitive and the golf courses regularly launch special promotions. One of the most popular is the green fee-buggy combo, often with substantial discounts. But be quick because these bargains sell out fast.

Marbella Km.0 – Gateway to Andalucía

It always makes a good pub quiz question. What is the geographical centre of Andalucía? Historically, and semi-officially, Antequera (near the northern border of Málaga province) is considered to hold that honour – at least for tourist brochure purposes. However, earlier this year a report by the National Centre for Geographical Information argued that the exact centre is in the small Córdoba municipality of Monturque. Other key cities in the region have their own claims to fame: Sevilla, the official capital; Cádiz, the oldest city in the western world; Málaga, the Andalucian capital of international tourism...
